Utsav (festival) at Savera Farm

Our recent Dussehra celebration unfolded into a 4 day long immersion in nature, a beautiful dream spent at Savera Farm, an organic farm stay near Sakleshpur. The highlight of this rejuvenating experience was undoubtedly the diet, crafted primarily from fresh, raw produce cultivated right on the farm. It was a delightful culinary journey that kept me energetic and revitalized throughout the stay.

Given that our usual diet already incorporates a wealth of fresh fruits and vegetables, embracing this new raw food regimen was an effortless transition. I welcomed it with an open mind, anticipating a truly special experience.

A Warm and Guiding Community

The Utsav event itself was a resounding success. We were fortunate to meet a wonderful couple, our neighbors for the duration, who had visited Savera a couple of times previously. They generously shared their experiences and offered valuable tips, which helped us settle in immediately. It was truly enlightening to connect with so many like-minded individuals, learning from their experiences and sharing our own.

The spirit of volunteering at Savera was truly heartwarming. The volunteers made us feel completely at home and ensured we made the most of our stay, guiding us day in and day out.

Learning about individuals’ healing journeys and positive feedback from connecting with and following nature’s cure at Savera Farm was truly inspiring. They shared how they overcame health challenges and restored their well-being.

Morning Bliss

Mornings at Savera were filled with refreshing activities like yoga and somatics. My husband and I took turns attending these, while also caring for our little one. What was truly admirable was our son’s enthusiasm; upon hearing our plans the night before, he magically woke up early, eager to participate. These sessions were often followed by engaging lectures or activities, which we found incredibly enriching and connecting.

“Let Food Be Thy Medicine”: Savera’s Culinary Philosophy

Merwin and Regina, our delightful hosts, were a couple whose skills perfectly complemented each other. Regina’s deep appreciation for nature was beautifully showcased in the food forest, which greatly enhanced the farm’s aesthetic. Merwin’s profound philosophy and extensive knowledge of natural and living foods truly set this place apart, making it renowned for its “Nature Cure.”

Savera Farms operates on the principle of “Let Food Be Thy Medicine.” Their unique dietary approach includes:

  • Breakfast: Purely fresh fruits and smoothies made from greens, fruits, and other nutritious plant-based products.
  • Lunch and Dinner: Meals crafted using fresh vegetables.
  • Restrictions: Milk and milk-based products are not served or recommended. While the general recommendation is to avoid grains and pulses, there was some flexibility offered during the event.

Adopting such a diet can take time and effort, especially if it requires a complete dietary overhaul. However, I can attest that it is profoundly rewarding. For those interested in learning more, Savera offers courses like “LFBTM” (Let Food Be Thy Medicine) or “The Living Food.”

Upon returning to normal life, the challenge of integrating these learnings with family and friends became evident. Habits are difficult to change, requiring conscious effort and self-motivation. For instance, my suggestion to start with fruits for breakfast was met with the question, “should we have fruits before or after having breakfast?”

Activities that Reconnected Us to Nature

The activities at Savera were thoughtfully planned and executed, offering a delightful array of experiences: stream play, rolling in muddy paddy fields, tree climbing, zip-lining, and traditional Indian sports like kabaddi, kho kho, gillidanda, lagori (called as seven stones) and trekking to Hosahalli gudda(hill). We also enjoyed pottery, a unique “nature dance” and natural dye sessions. Every moment felt special, bringing out the inner child in me.

A brief session on Kalari was the perfect culmination of our trip, a divine and spiritually connecting experience. The depth of this art form is truly inexpressible, it must be experienced firsthand. I am personally inspired to learn Kalari and am actively seeking an opportunity to do so. To discover more about their offerings, I recommend checking out Swasthya Holistic Wellness.

I eagerly anticipate my return to Savera, where I aim to further my understanding of nature cure.
